Review| Deadpool vs X-Force Issue No. 1

There is something about classic Deadpool that just makes me the happiest kid on Christmas. He’s fun, always action-packed, crude, a joker, and just all-around great to read.

In Deadpool vs. X-Force Issue No. 1, its starts out, after the first page, with Deadpool narrating his actions in the Revolutionary War. Just as Deadpool does in most of his comics (including the video game), it made me laugh out loud. He’s a fool, but I love him.

With Cable, Warpath, Boom Boom, Domino, and Cannonball close behind on Deadpool’s trail of destruction, I feel this story is gonna be just as fun as just about everything else Deadpool was in (I’m sorry for all the fans of this, however I was not a fan of Deadpool vs. The Marvel Universe series, it didnt feel right to me).

The art for this comic is pretty standard, but I cannot read a comic with art I can’t enjoy to look at as well. Its definitely well drawn, so when I say standard please don’t think I mean its not original, or badly put together. This comic is not that at all, I mean its perfect for the story. Its just not something that pops out at you because the art is so good not to pick up for that alone. I still love everything about it.

I would highly recommend reading this, even if you are remotely an X-Men/X-Force fan. Its a great read, a lot of fun, action-packed, and Deadpool is in it. Whats not to love? I only have one question: Where are all the fun voices to read inside Deadpool’s head?

Ultraviolence by Lana Del Rey | Review

I have to say, only recently have I discovered the sultry voice of Ms. Lana Del Rey. I had noticed her making a trend with the popular song “Young and Beautiful” making its fame from The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire. I was immediately hooked to her. She is dark, sexy, romantic, and has a glamour that just draws me to her. The kind of timeless Hollywood glamour you can’t help but love.

Her new album, Ultraviolence, has made me love her that much more. Having this bluesy feel with a touch of jazz, pop, and rock. You can almost feel her influences and inspirations. It’s almost as though that she is speaking them to you, without saying a word about them. Its a beautiful masterpiece and an excellent follow-up. I cannot wait for more.

I without a doubt recommend listening to anything by her, especially if you just enjoy music for the sake of what it is, art. If you don’t want to buy her album just yet without listening to something, she has to videos, West Coast and Shades Of Cool, up and running on YouTube, and Vevo, and I am sure her website. Give her a good click, and just listen. She is slowly becoming one of my favorite singers of today’s generation.

TURISAS2013 Album Review

, , , , , , , , , , , ,

Before I begin the review, here’s a little summary on the band just in case you are unaware of who they are.

Hailing from Finland, Turisas released their first full length album “Battle Metal” in 2004. Since then, they’ve had three other releases including the release of “TURISAS2013”. They had also named themselves after an ancient Finnish god of war. Fitting, eh?

I became a fan in 2009, only 2 years after the release of “The Varangian Way“. If I could remember the name of the compilation album they were on, I’d credit it, but I can’t remember anything other than it was some sick pagan metal. An ex-boyfriend and I were set out on a metal quest for new and interesting music, and knowing we both loved Amon Amarth and Týr, made it that much more interesting.

And on that note: ONTO THE NEW ALBUM!

So far so pagan, just like the band themselves. After listening to this album in its entirety, I’ve come to realize that Turisas is like a bottle of wine, it just gets better and better with age. There was always something that I loved about Mathias Nygård‘s vocals and the fact that they had Ollie Vänskä on a violin, but this album only strengthened that love. The new album has a symphonic sound as “TVW” did and still the same “Battle Metal” they’ve always been, although there is something different about it. “Run Bhang-Eater, Run!” is an excellent example of what I mean. Its pagan, and folk, and definitely Turisas, but they seem to sneak in a little what sounds like Jazz, with the faint moans of a woman in the background. That flew me for a loop when I heard it but it’s definitely a fun song. Well almost as fun as “No Good Story Ever Starts With Drinking Tea”. As a single, “Ten More Miles” brings almost everything you expect in a new Turisas album, and an excellent choice for a first single.

Well, I now leave you with the recommendation of buying this album. It’s a great album and its a lot of fun. I personally can not wait until they tour near me.

Track Listing:

1. For Your Own Good (4:34)

2. Ten More Miles (4:16)

3. Piece by Piece (5:37)

6. Greek Fighter (4:51)

7. The Days Passed (4:33)

8. No Good Story Ever Starts With Drinking Tea (2:51)

Fleshgod Apocalypse “Labyrinth” Review

, , , , ,

Now I must apologize ahead of time for my opinions on this album, as I try to keep my personal opinions out of my reviews. But, this album almost required my personal opinion.

If you haven’t had the chance to listen to Fleshgod Apocalypse yet, I must tell you, you’re missing out. This band is fantastic. They formed in 2007, so the band have a few years yet, but this is definitely a good album to listen to. They are listed as Classical Death Metal or Symphonic Death Metal, have you, one of my favorite sub-genres of Death Metal.

Holy Motherfucking Shit.

The first impression I had of this album was a shit load of “FUCKs”, but in a good way. When I had listened to the first few minutes of the album I must say I was blown away. It started great, it continued its greatness, and finished with that much more. Elegy is possibly my favorite song off of the album. Its just so good, and dare I say, so fucking brutal. Listening to the album in its entirety at once, I can say I’m almost speechless about how well done this album is. I mean, personally, I could listen to this album on repeat for a while. Its THAT good. Go buy it, or regret it.

Now I am a chick, and a metal chick at that. And no I don’t mean “Ohmygod BVB!!” (Make it fucking stop). I mean Meshuggah loving, Wintersun praising, Finntroll fangirl. I go to shows, I get ridiculed, then I SCHOOL them in everything they think they know (Can we say high horse? No, I grew up on metal, dad’s a metalhead, uncle’s a metalhead, mom’s a Deadhead. I KNOW my shit.)

Disclosure: Please note, I support music, I love music, and I spend a shitload of money on music. Please buy merchandise from the bands, whether it be albums, or t-shirts. Just like everyone else they need to make a living, and can’t do so if you illegally download. Please support music.

I do not own either photographs in this blog/review and if I had copyright information I would credit them.

Nine Inch Nails “Hesitation Marks” 2013 Review

, , , ,

As a long time fan of Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor himself, just like every other NIN fan I have been waiting a lovely (and agonizing 5 years) for NIN to release something new. And although Reznor had released several things since then, including the “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2012)” official soundtrack and a collaboration with his wife in How To Destroy Angels, it still hasn’t been the same without a new NIN album.

In case you have been living under a rock or locked in an attic somewhere, if you don’t know Nine Inch Nails, their music is an excellent place to start. Don’t bother with that Reznor discovered Manson, or bother with someone like Johnny Cash covering the deeply intellectual and painful NIN song hurt. What matters is that you have been living in an attic, and its time to knock the door down and visit the sunshine.

Their upcoming 2013 release of Hesitation Marks, is almost exactly what I expected to hear from NIN as well as nothing I anticipated. As most of you know, three songs have been released internationally. The first Came Back Haunted was the first single off of the album. It’s exactly what you would expect from an ever evolving artist such as Nine Inch Nails. With the return of Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder, and the artistic genius of Trent Reznor, you would expect nothing less from a first single. Then came the second single, Everything. I first heard this song on the radio, and at first I was unsure. It’s more pop-rock than anything I’ve ever heard Nine Inch Nails.

As for the rest of the album, you can’t expect anything. NIN incoropates New Wave, Funk, Industrial, and a little Alternative and turn it into something NIN. It goes from fun, to bland, to holy shit. Its a mind blowing album you will either love or hate. It officially comes out September 3rd and if you are a NIN fan, buy it. Support music, and support the bands you love. Deluxe Editions will be available.
